For christmas I treated myself to a trip to thailand as holiday in a hagwon is very limited and I did not want to waste the time lingering in Korea. I had a short layover in Bankok and moved on to Phuket; a touris infested wall to wall retail shop strip mall with many pleasant beaches.
In this contrasted environment, I was able to meet many different people, tourists and locals while experiencing an injection of fluent English. On the bus ride from the airport to my home town for a week, Kata, I re-learned the basics of reading Hangul. I was determined to make some headway and break free from the blind fold being illiterate had created for me. A Korean tourist was my generous and suppportive teacher along the hot and bumpy road.
Here I learned to surf, got sick on an all you can eat chicken barbeque and spun fire with local rasta posers from Thailand on their beach front bar. Three of the most enjoyable massages were had here at a back breaking $7.50 CAD / hour. I need to go back and should have spent more time in Bankok.
